Founded in 2006, Rainbow Railroad is a Canadian charity that helps LGBTQI people around the world find safety from persecution. Currently 70 countries have laws that criminalize same-sex activities and in many more LGBTQI+ people face discrimination for their sexual orientation or gender identity. Through the organization's Emergency Travel Support program, Rainbow Railroad has assisted approximately 1,500 individuals to escape violence and travel to a safer country where they can have the freedom to live as their authentic selves. The organization has helped thousands more vulnerable LGBTQI people through short-term livelihood assistance, information and resources, and referrals to service organizations.
